CARE is looking for suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions:
HEAD DRIVER – COUNTRY OFFICE, LILONGWE
Position description
The Head Driver is responsible for scheduling and assigning vehicles in order to meet the organization’s transport needs. S/he will be responsible for upholding and demonstrating CARE’s Core values at all times and also adhere to and comply with all relevant organizational and fleet policies and procedures. Reporting to the Fleet Coordinator, S/He will also be responsible for the resources under his/her disposal to accomplish the duties.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following specific duties:
- Ensure all vehicles for the organization are in good mechanical condition and clean both internally and externally.
- Receive and verify all vehicle servicing/maintenance requirements before and after servicing.
- Supervise fueling of vehicles.
- Endure correct allocation and utilization of fleet across Country Office.
- Receive dully approved forms of motorbike repairs/maintenance for all motorbikes, prepare job cards and recommend spare parts to be purchased and carry out maintenance of all CARE motorbikes.
- Follow up on all vehicle accidents and ensure proper reporting and appropriate action to be taken.
- Provide transport to Country office staff on all official assignments and manage all official transport requirements for visiting country office visitors.
- Monitor proper usage of hired vehicles and proper recording of logbooks and timely submission of monthly reports.
- Ensure that vehicles are adequately equipped with tools and equipment as part of safety and security policies and procedures.
- Test senior staff driving proficiency to be allocated official vehicles.
- Carry out daily errands to deliver mail, payments and other requirements.
- Ensure that drivers are trained in CI policies and procedures, first aid, CARE Core values and use of vehicles in off road conditions.
Minimum Required Qualifications, skills and relevant work experience
- Malawi School Certificate of Education.
- Certificate in Transport and Logistics.
- Grade I certificate and Defensive Certificate.
- A clean and valid Driver’s license class C with at least two years’ experience in motor vehicle/cycle repairs and maintenance.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and must be fluent in English.
- Be able to work under pressure.
