Malawi Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity Application
Chemonics International Inc., a U.S.-based international development consulting firm, seeks a Human Resources Assistant for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking an individual who has a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
This is a long-term position that will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Responsibilities include:
- Assists in maintaining confidential personnel files for all local staff in electronic and hard-copy format in compliance with the applicable local laws and the project’s policy manual
- Updates the project personnel tracker as directed by operations manager
- Under the guidance of the operations manager, prepares recruitment documents, schedules interviews, releases recruitment ads, and collects required documentation from candidates
- Collects employee timesheets and ensures the required supporting documentation is attached and maintained in both hard copy and electronic format in the project’s human resources files
- Tracks employee leave balances in the project’s leave tracker and communicates leave balances to staff and senior management as required
- Assists the human resource manager in identifying recruiting needs and conducting recruits
- Assists the human resource manager with communications to staff on labor law compliance
- Assists the human resource manager to ensure project compliance with local labor laws by assisting with regular audits and staying updated on local labor laws and human resources best practices
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
- A minimum of at least one year of experience in operations, human resources management, and/or relevant work experience
- Knowledgeable of Malawian labor laws, personnel benefits, and taxes required; ability to interpret local labor laws, previous experience interacting with labor counsel preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, to meet deadlines, and to exercise good, strong professional judgment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required
- Ability to exercise confidentiality and high level of professionalism
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English required
