Overview
The Lilongwe Institute of Orthopedics and Neurosurgery (LION) is an autonomous not-for-profit institution managed by the LION Trust. LION functions as the orthopedic and neurosurgical department of Kamuzu Central Hospital and provide quality public and paying services in trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, with the goal of reducing the high level of disability and its economic impact on the people of Malawi, on the individual and on community level.

Haukeland House Keeper
Period: Two (2) years, subject to extension
Responsible to: Haukeland House Manager
Job Summary
The House Keeper at HAUKELAND HOUSE is responsible for a wide range of activities from cleaning, laundry, running errands, and ensuring food and other items are stored safely. The House Keeper is expected to perform his/her duties with the dedication and professional zeal as they shall be interacting with various kinds of people. They are expected to be in good standing with the occupants at all times.
Specific Duties include but not limited to:
- Assisting and welcoming guest to the house
- Maintaining a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeaner at all time.
- Washing dirty linen and strip beds of dirty linen and make the beds using fresh linen in the allocated rooms at least once a week or on request
- Ironing linen, fold and put them away in closets ready for use
- Washing and ironing clothes for occupants on request through the manager
- Washing dishes and flatware and maintain the kitchen in terms of decorum and cleanliness
- Ensuring that all the dishes are washed, dried and put in their respective storage places
- Making sure that all wooden surfaces are cleaned and polished according to set procedures, including the house furniture
- Sweeping, mopping household floors including all flats and communal areas regularly according to set procedures to ensure cleanliness all the time
- Washing bathrooms, vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets
- Emptying trash cans and ashtrays and take the trash outside for City Council Garbage Collectors
- Reporting any faults, missing items or damages in house to Manager as soon as possible
- Ensuring that any hazardous situation is reported to the Manager immediately
- Handling, moving and positioning items in LION house
- Monitor and control working tools
- Ensure safety of house occupants (including their personal belongings) and house property.
- Perform any other work-related duties as assigned
Qualification and Experience and Skills
- Minimum Malawi School Certificate of Education
- Certificate in Hospitality will be an added advantage
- Two years’ experience in a similar role
- Excellent communication skills,
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English a must
- Service minded
