Background
The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a Development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is operational in 13 districts across the country namely Chikwawa, Neno, Mwanza, Zomba and Phalombe in south; Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu, Lilongwe Rural, Nkhota Kota and Mchinji in Centre; Mzimba and Chitipa in the North. ELDS works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security, Micro-finance, Value Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services (Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination, Sexual Reproductive Health); Climate Change and disaster management; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy as cross cutting.
With support from DAI Global UK under the Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Fund, ELDS will be
implementing a 2 and a half-year project “Climate Just Communities – Malawi” in TA Ngwelero in Zomba District. ELDS is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to be considered for positions below.
Development Facilitator
Reporting to the Project Officer, the Development facilitator is responsible for the provision of technical assistance to the community in terms of capacity building, mentoring, training, support, and documentation and mobilization. Provides support to the monitoring and evaluation activities in the project together with the communities. Working in close liaison with the Project Team to enhance the achievement of the ELDS program
Experience & Skills:
- Diploma (Minimum 5 years’ experience) or Degree (Minimum 2 Years’ experience) in Agriculture/Natural Resources, Community Development or any other related field with a minimum of 2 years working experience in similar position in donor-funded projects.
- Coordinate the formulation of weekly and monthly activity work plans and budgets at community level.
- Contribute towards development of annual work plans and budgets
- Provide technical leadership and assistance to community in all areas and promote project learning through documentation of lessons learned.
- Facilitate community mobilization through meetings, visits e.t.c
- Represent ELDS at meetings or task forces in the Area Development Committee Meetings
- Conduct field visits and monitor community based activities as necessary to ensure adequate
implementation. - Ensure appropriate communication and timely responses between communities and project partners and programme staff.
- Facilitate community trainings in relevant area of need
- Facilitate demonstrations to communities on relevant technologies
- Prepare timely monthly and activity project reports.
