There is Hope is a Christian Non-Governmental Organization which was registered under the Malawi Trustees Incorporation Act on 31 December 2007. We are a member of NGO Board and CONGOMA (Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi).

There is Hope exists to provide access to education and income generating activities to refugees and their host community as well as to strengthen their spiritual well-being.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Accountant reports to the Accountant. He/she is responsible for preparing financial statements and accounts, budgeting, managing ledgers and processing requisitions. The Assistant Accountant provides whatever support is necessary to the Accountant ultimately improving the financial well-being of the There is Hope.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

• Completing financial report on a regular basis and providing information to the Accountant

• Entering financial information into appropriate software programs

• Verifying balances in account records and reconciling discrepancies

• Posting daily receipts

• Processing business expenses

• Verifying bank deposits

• Recording office and project expenditures and ensuring these expenses are within the set budgets

• Managing day to day transactions

• Production of monthly departmental budget reports

• Bank reconciliation, posting and balancing

• Maintain petty cash and cash advances

• Keep fixed asset schedules

• Coordinating internal and external audits

• Year end audit preparation

• Assist in preparing annual budgets

• Attend staff meetings, General Meetings, and other meetings as needed

• Do any other duties that may be assigned by the Accountant.

1. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERINCE

• Diploma in Financial Accounting (ACCA/ICAM)

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting as an added advantage.

• Advanced knowledge in accounting software such Quick Books

• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, preferably in an NGO environment;

• Able to work extended hours and some weekends as needed.

• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, professionalism, and dedication to the mission of the TIH.

2. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• 2-year contract, renewable upon good performance

• Compensation based on TIH salary scale

• Position located in Lilongwe
