VACANCY


1. POST: TAILOR (GRADE M)

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Malawians for the post of Tailor (Grade M), existing at the Malawi Prisons Service.

The Tailor will be responsible for designing, cutting, altering, repairing and sewing garment and other fabrics according to customer requirements and organizational standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
The eligible candidates should be a Malawian and should possess the following:

  • Proven tailoring experience and fashion designing

  • Ability to operate electrical sewing machines and other equipment

DUTIES
a) Strong knowledge of fabrics, threads and garment construction
b) Good communication and customer service skills
c) Taking accurate measurements and ensure proper fit
d) Cutting, sewing, altering and repairing garments as required
e) Advise customers on fabric, styles and designs
f) Maintain tailoring equipment and work area
g) Deliver high quality garments on time
h) Repairing damaged uniforms and garments for staff and inmates
i) Maintain inventory of fabrics and sewing supplies
j) Maintain workplace health and safety standards and procedures


2. POST: WELDER (GRADE M)

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Malawians for the post of Welder (Grade M), existing at the Malawi Prisons Service.

QUALIFICATIONS
The eligible candidates should be a Malawian and should possess the following:
a) Certificate/diploma in welding or related field

  • Vast experience in welding experience preferred

  • Ability to read drawings and use welding tools

  • Good attention to detail and safety awareness

DUTIES
a) Reading and Interpreting blueprint and technical drawings
b) Perform MIG, TIG, Arc or gas welding as required

  • Fabricate, join and repair metal components

  • Inspect welds for accuracy and quality

  • Maintain welding tools and equipment

  • Ability to solve problems and work as a team

  • Maintain workplace health and safety standards and procedures


3. POST: CARPENTER (GRADE M)

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Malawians for the post of Carpenter (Grade M), existing at the Malawi Prisons Service.

QUALIFICATIONS
The eligible candidates should be a Malawian and should possess the following:
a) Certificate/diploma in Carpentry and Joinery or related field
b) Vast experience as a carpenter

  • Good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and safety

DUTIES

  • Constructing, repairing and maintaining wooden structures, furniture and fittings

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawing/blueprints

  • Ensure quality and safety standards are met

  • Install doors, windows, shelves and other wooden fixtures

  • Maintain carpentry tools and equipment

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments

  • Maintain workplace health and safety standards and procedure


Note: Those with experience as Instructors in the field of Tailor, Welder and Carpentry will have an additional advantage.
