Government Health Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians for
the following vacancies existing under the establishment of Ministry of Health:

Post: Chief Disease Control Officer (Under Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

Grade: Grade F/P5
Salary: Within the range of Grade F Salary Segment
Ref. No: P5/31
Responsible to: Director of Community and Promotive Health Services (Grade D).
Location: Ministry of Health Headquarters

Qualifications:

Applicants should be Principal Preventive Health Officers (Grade G/P7), Principal Environmental Health Officer (Grade G/P7), with a minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in that post. Must be in possession of Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health or Epidemiology from recognized institutions. Must have worked in one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Programmes at National level.

Those in possession of a Masters of Sciences in Medical Entomology, Masters in Public Health, Masters in Environmental Health, Masters in Epidemiology, Masters in Community Health and Development or any other related Master’s Degree will have an added advantage.

Duties

  • Responsible for the coordination, administration and management of Neglected Tropical Diseases in Malawi.
  • Responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Neglected Tropical Diseases in Malawi.
  • Coordinating all research activities on Neglected Tropical Diseases with research institutions.
  • Development of staff capacity within the Neglected Tropical Diseases section through trainings and courses.
  • Overseeing the control of resources assigned to the section for example human, financial and physical assets.
  • Preparation of reports and other documentation for submission to authorities.
  • To make sure that the NTD section is following the internationally recommended policies, guidelines and manuals.
  • Facilitate the creation of functional collaborative networks with international networks; Research Institutions and Public Health Institute of Malawi to establish consensus on technical and policy issues.
  • Provide direction to the section on advocacy and resource mobilization.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
