Yathu-Yathu Data is a cooperative-based and community-focused initiative aimed at empowering citizens to champion broadband networks in unserved and underserved parts of Malawi. The cooperative is seeking qualified and suitable persons to be recruited in different portfolios under the Yathu-Yathu National Broadband Cooperative as follows:

Chief Technology Officer

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Strategy and Vision:

  • Develop and communicate a clear technology strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments to ensure the company’s technology remains at the forefront.

II. Network Architecture and Design:

  • Lead the design and architecture of our network infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Implement best practices for network security, data protection, and disaster recovery.

III. Innovation and Product Development:

  • Drive innovation in service offerings, exploring and implementing new technologies to enhance our product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring new products and services to market.

IV. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Build and lead a high-performing technology team, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Recruit, train, and retain top talent to support the company’s technical objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for knowledge management and data retention to enhance data-based decision-making.

V. Vendor Management:

  • Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors, ensuring the selection of reliable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to optimise vendor partnerships.

VI. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay informed about relevant industry regulations and standards.
  • Ensure the company’s technology practices comply with regulatory requirements.

VIl. Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support business objectives.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or reliability.


  • Proven experience as a Solutions Architect or in a senior technology leadership role within the ISP or telecommunications industry.
  • Strong technical background in network architecture (CLOUD/SDWAN/MPLS/ OSPF), infrastructure design, deployment and management, and cyber security.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performance teams.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Sound Knowledge of Wi-Fi Hotspots and billing systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management will be an added advantage.
  • Certified AWS Solutions Architect or Microsoft Azure Administrator.
  • Certified AWS/Microsoft Azure Practitioner or Google Cloud.
  • Certified Wireless Administrator either in Ubiquiti, Cambium, Mikrotik, Cisco, Radwin or Ligowave. Those with a postgraduate Certificate in Innovation will have an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in technology leadership roles within the ISP or telecommunications sector.
