Child Protection Officer

Location: Malawi (field-based with periodic office reporting)

Role Overview

The Child Protection Officer will lead Tikondere’s safeguarding efforts across schools and communities. You will identify risks, respond to concerns, and ensure that every child supported by Tikondere is safe, heard, and protected. This role requires emotional intelligence, legal awareness, and deep cultural sensitivity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and uphold Tikondere’s safeguarding policies across all programs.

  • Conduct risk assessments and respond to child protection concerns.

  • Interview students, guardians, and community members to gather insights and flag vulnerabilities.

  • Coordinate with schools, social services, and local authorities on referrals and case management.

  • Train staff, volunteers, and partners on safeguarding protocols.

  • Maintain confidential records and submit timely reports.

  • Contribute to the refinement of safeguarding policies and procedures.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in social work, child welfare, psychology, education, or related field.

  • Minimum 1 year’s experience in child protection, safeguarding, or social services.

  • Strong understanding of Malawi’s child protection laws and referral systems.

  • Certification or demonstrable training in safeguarding and child rights.

  • Fluent in Chichewa and English.

Additional Requirements

  • Clean background check and willingness to undergo vetting.

  • Valid driver’s license or ability to travel independently.

  • Basic digital literacy (email, secure data handling, reporting tools).

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package and Teams.
