Position: Civil/Irrigation Engineer

EMD Consulting Engineers is a Civil Engineering Consulting Firm based in Blantyre, with assignments across Malawi. The firm provides multi-disciplinary services in the following sectors:

• Irrigation Engineering

• Water Supply and Sanitation

• Structural Engineering

We are looking to recruit a Civil/Irrigation Engineer to support our Irrigation Projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and Construction: Design and oversee the construction of irrigation infrastructure such as dams, reservoirs, canals, irrigation fields, pipelines, and pump stations. Conduct feasibility studies and design work for irrigation systems and related infrastructure.

• Project Management: Manage all aspects of irrigation-related projects, including budgets, schedules, and quality control.

• Water Resource Management: Assess water resources, develop management plans, and ensure sustainable use of water for irrigation.

• Field Operations: Oversee construction, implementation, and monitoring of projects in the field.

• Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and support to team members and clients.

• Community Engagement: Engage with communities to understand their needs and ensure project success.

• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare reports, technical documentation, and maintain project records.

Required Profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Irrigation Engineering.

• Registrable with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI).

• Minimum of 8 years’ engineering experience in design and construction supervision.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in relevant engineering software (e.g., for modeling/design), knowledge of regulations, and experience with water systems.

• Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
