Background

St. Anne’s Community Hospital is a non-profit making institution under the Diocese of Karonga. It is located at Chilumba in Karonga District, Northern Malawi. The Hospital is a member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It offers inpatient and outpatient services.

St Anne’s Community Hospital would like to recruit suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position with immediate effect on permanent basis (within Government salary scale).

Job Title: Clinical Officer

Grade: K

Responsible to: Chief Clinical Officer

JOB PURPOSE

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations of patients to diagnose illnesses and injuries.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Record patients’ medical histories, symptoms, and treatments
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood tests, x-rays, and other necessary procedures.
• Prescribe medications and treatments based on patient diagnosis and follow-up on their effectiveness.
• Participate in institutional health promotion and disease prevention programs, including organizing and conducting health talks and awareness campaigns.
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential patient records, ensuring compliance with institutional and government health regulations
• Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory technicians, to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care and operational improvements.
• Support institutional health initiatives and participate in community outreach activities as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare policies, regulations, and ethical standards in all clinical operations.
• Maintain and update knowledge of healthcare practices and advancements in medical treatment and diagnostics.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum Educational Qualification and Experience

• University or College Diploma in Clinical Medicine
• Must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi
• At least 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a hospital or health facility setting

• Skilled in diagnosing, treating, and managing common medical conditions.
• Proficient in performing clinical procedures, patient assessment, and minor surgeries.
• Knowledgeable in emergency care, infection control, and laboratory procedures.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and patient counseling skills.
• Professional, reliable, adaptable, and committed to ethical medical practice.
