JOB DESCRIPTION

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a locally registered NGO that has been operating in Malawi since 1995. Our mission is to work with the communities by promoting social and economic development through health, education training, food security and environmental programs. Our work in development is guided by social cohesion and respect for humanity, implemented through innovative and cost-effective programs. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the government’s effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy.

DAPP Malawi is inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Community Mobilizers for the USAID HIV Kuteteza (prevention) Health program. DAPP Malawi and its consortium partners (Family Health Services -FHS as Prime Partner), Pakachere IHDC, Tovwirane Organization, and PSI) are anticipating a five -year USAID HIV Kuteteza (prevention) health program. The Kuteteza program will increase demand and uptake of intergrated and high quality VMMC services across ten priority districts targeting boys and men. This is a TCE HIV/AIDS prevention project targeting males.

Reports to: District Liaison Coordinator

Key Performance Areas

The Community Mobilizers will among other duties be responsible for the following activities;

  • Provide day-to-day leadership in the implementation of the Kuteteza Project activities in the communities surrounding the targeted Health Facilities.
  • Supervise the work of the Community activist and volunteers
  • Support the establishment and functioning of the Community structures which supports demand creation for VMMC
  • To supervise, mentor and support the activities being implemented by the Community Activist and Volunteers.
  • Will support the activists to mobilize the community structure to rally and ensure that the community structures understand their roles in this project which is demand creation for VMMC.
  • Spearhead, coordinate, and organize community mobilization and outreach activities
  • To collaborate with other community actors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure linkage and referral system is functioning properly at the community and health facility level
  • Supervise activity implementation and ensure the activity meets stated goals and reporting requirements, this will include mentorship and support Community workers

Qualification and Experience

  • Qualification with a minimum of Malawi School Leaving Certificate with
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in community work.
  • Hands-on type of person, team player, and builder able to coordinate activities in a complex environment and be able to work under time pressure.
  • Good organizer, communicator and with a high level of facilitation skills.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate program progress using designated tools
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, at all times.
  • Should be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate with people of different backgrounds and different literacy levels
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including a good track record of report writing; a high level of written and spoken English and Chichewa is expected.
  • Result-oriented with good skills in long-term planning – foreseeing pitfalls and finding solutions within the given timeframe.
  • Ability to mentor community actors with skills and practical knowledge of participatory methodologies.
  • Experienced organizer, communicator, trainer, and facilitator.
  • Willing to work long hours toward the attainment of project objectives and deliverables.
