VACANCY
Position Title: Environmental Health Intern
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi (with occasional travel as required)
Duration: 3–6 months (with possibility of extension)
Reports to: Secretary General
Start Date: 5ᵗʰ January 2026
About Us
The Malawi Environmental Health Association (MEHA) is a professional body dedicated to advancing environmental health practice, promoting public health leadership, and strengthening professional standards across Malawi. MEHA works through public advisory, advocacy, research, capacity building, and strategic partnerships to support high-quality environmental health services nationwide.
MEHA also provides consultancy services across environmental health functions, including Climate Change and Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Occupational Health and Safety, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Hygiene and Safety, and Pollution Control.
Position Overview
The Environmental Health Intern will support MEHA’s programmes, administrative functions, and communications work. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in environmental health, professional association management, stakeholder engagement, and public health project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Support
• Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring MEHA activities, projects, and events.
• Support research initiatives, data collection, and compilation of technical information.
• Contribute to the development of reports, presentations, and policy briefs.
• Assist in coordinating field activities, workshops, continuous professional development sessions, and conferences.
2. Administration and Coordination
• Provide day-to-day administrative support to the MEHA Secretariat.
• Assist with scheduling, documentation, filing, and minute-taking during meetings.
• Maintain updated records of members, partners, and programmatic activities.
3. Communications and Outreach
• Support development of communication materials, including newsletters, social media posts, and website updates.
• Help document MEHA activities through photography, brief write-ups, and success stories.
• Assist in stakeholder engagement and follow-up communications with partners and members.
4. Membership Support
• Assist with processing membership applications, renewals, and updating the membership database.
• Support member engagement activities and respond to routine membership inquiries.
5. Other Duties
• Perform any other tasks assigned to support MEHA’s mission and organisational needs.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education
• A diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental health, or
• A diploma in environmental health and a bachelor’s degree in other related disciplines
Technical Skills
• Basic understanding of environmental health principles and public health issues
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Familiarity with social media management is an added advantage

• MUST be a subscribed MEHA member
Remuneration
The position is unpaid. However, the successful candidate will receive a stipend at prevailing rates.
