FIELD WORKER (Multiple positions) – Lilongwe city

The Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit (MEIRU) operates in Karonga District and Lilongwe City. MEIRU is conducting research programme in partnership with the Malawi Ministry of Health, the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Glasgow.

MEIRU seeks to recruit-suitably qualified and motivated person to the position of Field Worker in Lilongwe City. Due to the nature of work involved, the position is available to individual living within Lilongwe City. MEIRU is an equal opportunity employer, therefore women are very much encouraged to apply.

MAIN DUTIES

a. To recruit, interview and voluntary counsel study participants.
b. To perform community-based briefings, sensitization and feedback programmes.
c. To record interview details, learn and follow specific study protocols and maintain study registers.
d. To collect specimens, where appropriate, according to study procedures.
e. To respond to queries from the data office.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with an aggregate of 18 to 30 points obtained from single sitting. All certificates will be verified by MANEB.
  • Previous work experience in similar position will have an added advantage.
  •  Good oral and written communication skills in English and Chichewa languages
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willing to spend considerable amount of time in the field and travel around Lilongwe City.

SALARY AND CONDITION OF APPOINTMENT

Salary will be in grade G of MEIRU’s salary scale. The post is subject to MEIRU’s terms and conditions of service.
