JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

Learner Treatment Kit Project is a one-year project funded by the Berglund Family and Judith Nelson Foundation. The Foundations, in collaboration with Save the Children, will work with the Government of Malawi, specifically the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) in the Ministry of Health (MOH), the District Health Office, Department of School Health Nutrition in Ministry of Education, District Education Office and other stakeholders to increase access and uptake of malaria services in schools among learners through capacity building of teachers as providers of the service right in schools.

Learner Treatment Kit Project will be implemented in Zomba and Machinga districts with an aim of reducing severity of illness due to malaria through enhancing access to early diagnosis and treatment of malaria.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Advanced Diploma in Health related field, Public Health, Social Sciences, Community Health or Community Development.
  • Those with Bachelors degree in these fields will have an added advantage.
  • A minimum of at least 2 years’ experience in an NGO set up implementing community health or development programs. Those with Child Health and/or malaria experience will have an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Analytical, critical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team working and organization skills in public health-related domains
  • Working experience of at least 2 years in health system including working with Health Facilities, primary schools and Community Health Workers. Those with health background and community mobilization experience have an added advantage
  • Demonstrated abilities or experience in working with local leaders and CSOs would be a benefit.
  • Fluency and writing skills in English are required for reporting purposes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, or similar software
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and commitment to capacity building of staff with proven skills as a trainer/facilitator and mentor.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets.
  • Experience with planning, implementing, managing, and/or monitoring and reporting of MCH, malaria and community health initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills as evidenced by impressive professional results.
  • Proven good work ethic, highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and able to work well under deadlines with minimum supervision.
