Benga Community Library – Parish of Mary Mother of the Church

The Benga Community Library, operated under the Parish of Mary Mother of the Church, seeks a dedicated and passionate Librarian to lead our community library in serving the educational, informational, and cultural needs of our diverse community.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in our community by:
- Managing daily library operations including circulation, cataloguing, and collection development
- Developing educational programs, literacy initiatives, and cultural activities
- Work with students of St Joseph Integrated Secondary School for their library needs
- Work with learners at St Mary Pvt Primary School for their library needs
- Providing exceptional reference and information services to patrons of all ages
- Building partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local institutions
- Coordinating volunteers and creating inclusive programming
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential Requirements:
- Diploma in Library Science, Information Science, or related field
- Experience with Koha cataloguing system (or similar library management systems)
- Previous experience in library services or educational settings
- Strong organizational and administrative capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer literacy and familiarity with digital library resources
- Proficiency in cataloguing and classification principles
- Commitment to community service and lifelong learning
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of local culture, history, and community needs
- Experience in community engagement and program development
- Multilingual abilities relevant to our diverse community
- Experience in grant writing or fundraising
- Familiarity with preservation of cultural materials
POSITION DETAILS
- Full-time position: 40 hours per week
- Schedule flexibility required: Some evening and weekend hours to serve community needs
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift materials up to 25 pounds
- Reporting to: Parish Priest in collaboration with Parish Council’s Education Committee
