Overview
Background
The Evangelical Lutheran Development Service (ELDS) is a Development service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM). It was established in 1989 in response to a request from ELCM and Malawi Government, primarily to assist the Mozambican Refugees who were in Malawi then. ELDS is operational in 13 districts across the country namely Chikwawa, Neno, Mwanza, Zomba and Phalombe in south; Dowa, Dedza, Kasungu, Lilongwe Rural, Nkhota Kota and Mchinji in Centre; Mzimba and Chitipa in the North. ELDS works in rural areas to reduce human suffering and poverty through sustainable development (food and nutrition security, Micro-finance, Value Addition and Marketing; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Health Services (Maternal and Child Health, Malaria and Trachoma Elimination, Sexual Reproductive Health); Climate Change and disaster management; HIV and AIDS, Psychosocial, Gender, Human Rights and advocacy as cross cutting.
With support from DAI Global UK under the Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Fund, ELDS will be
implementing a 2 and a half-year project “Climate Just Communities – Malawi” in TA Ngwelero in Zomba District. ELDS is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to be considered for positions below.
Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant
Reporting to the ELDS Monitoring and Evaluation Officer through the Projects Officer – Zomba, the Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of all project activities at District level. The M&E Assistant will be responsible for designing and implementing the M&E activities of the Project in liaison with ELDS M&E; assisting the Projects Officer in preparing Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reports on project progress and will monitor the project activities on a regular basis, developing and maintaining the management information system of the Project and will be responsible for the collection & analysis of different data in relation to the project activities. The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant will work in close collaboration with the project team, government officials, and other relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- University Diploma/ Degree preferably in Agriculture, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field.
Experience & Skills:
- At least five years (Diploma Holders) and 2-3 Years (Degree Holders) of experience in the design and implementation of M&E/MIS in development projects implemented by national/international NGOs/UN bodies/ Government;
- Experience in designing tools and strategies for management information system, data collection, analysis and production of reports;
- Excellent knowledge of monitoring and the application of methodology;
- Good understanding of capacity assessment methodologies; excellent ability to identify significant capacity building opportunities;
- Proven ICT skills, especially in the development of MIS software using database software;
- Expertise in analyzing data, preferably using statistical software;
- Strong training & facilitation skills;
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral); and,
- Focuses on achieving results for the client and team.
