Background

St. Anne’s Community Hospital is a non-profit making institution under the Diocese of Karonga. It is located at Chilumba in Karonga District, Northern Malawi. The Hospital is a member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It offers inpatient and outpatient services.

St Anne’s Community Hospital would like to recruit suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position with immediate effect on permanent basis (within Government salary scale).

Job title: Nursing and Midwifery Technician

Grade: K

Responsible to: The Nursing and Midwifery Officer

JOB PURPOSE

• To provide care to patients and their families that is appropriate, effective and efficient in a respectful and caring manner

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing quality nursing and midwifery care using the nursing and midwifery standards;
• Communicating timely in verbal and written form using appropriate skills at all times;
• Adhering to standard precautions of infection prevention and control practices according to guidelines;
• Providing information, education and counselling to patients and their families using appropriate communication skills;
• Collaborating with other health workers in meeting specific needs of patients;
• Maintaining professional code of conduct at all times and adhering to Continuous Professional Development;
• Documenting and maintaining accurate records of all nursing and midwifery care activities performed;
• Collecting, analyzing and interpreting patients’ data and using it for decision making;
• Mentoring subordinate staff and students to meet patient’s needs;
• Responding efficiently and effectively to health emergencies during disasters and emerging outbreaks;
• Providing nursing and midwifery care using new technologies and procedures when providing nursing and midwifery care;
• Advocating for safety and rights of patients;
• Conducting performance appraisal to subordinates

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum Educational Qualification and Experience

• University or College Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Technician
• Licensed to practice by Nurses Midwives Council of Malawi
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a busy hospital
