Government Health Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians for
the following vacancies existing under the establishment of Ministry of Health:

Post: Principal Disease Control Officer (Under Malaria Programme)

Grade: G/P7
Salary: Within the range of Grade G Salary Segment

Responsible to: The Chief Disease Control Officer (Grade HF)
Location: Malaria Programme

Qualifications:

Applicants should be Senior Environmental Health Officers (Grade H/P8), Senior Nursing Officers (Grade H/P8), Senior Environmental Officers (Grade H/P8), with a minimum of four (4) years’ work experience at that grade. Must be experienced in Malaria or Disease Control Program. The candidates must be registered with the relevant regulatory bodies in health – related field. The applicant must have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or BSc in Environmental Health or BSc in Nursing or BSc in Public Health. Those with a Master’s Degree in Public Health or Master’s Degree in Community Health or Master’s Degree in any related health field will have an added advantage.

Duties

  • Support the Chief Disease Control Officer in facilitating the planning and implementation of malaria control interventions in the country.
  • Support development of comprehensive national malaria control strategies and action plans.
  • Support collaboration with international organisations and donors to mobilize resources and technical support for malaria control efforts.
  • Advocate for policy changes and initiatives to improve malaria prevention and treatment.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of malaria control programs on a national scale.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to subordinate staff at the national malaria control program.
  • Support coordination with regional and district health authorities to ensure implementation of standardized malaria control practices.
  • Facilitate review of partners’ work plans and align the same to the national malaria strategic plans.
  • Facilitate malaria program sub technical working group meetings.
  • Participate in presentations of technical issues from the malaria sub technical working groups to the Ministry of Health technical working groups and other related policy governing structures.
  • Represent the organization or country in national and international malaria control forums and conferences.
  • Stay updated with advancements in malaria control interventions and research.
  • Support the development and implementation of information, education, and communication (EIC) materials related to malaria control.
  • Support monitoring of quality, efficacy and safety of anti-malarial medicines used in the country.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time.
