Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and under the direct supervision of the (National) IBG Programme Officer, the successful candidate will be specifically responsible for assisting with and contributing to the day-to-day administration, coordination and implementation of activities of the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) unit while also supporting other programmatic units.
The successful candidate will be primarily tasked with supporting the implementation of IOM activities within two IBG projects. The first project focuses on facilitating safe cross-border mobility along the North-South, Nacala, and Beira Corridors in Southern Africa. This involves strengthening Border Management Information Systems (BMIS) at 15 selected Border Crossing Points (BCPs) in Malawi through the deployment of IOM’s Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), to enable the efficient regulation of migration flows while maintaining border security and integrity. The second is implementing a Border Pass System as a joint initiative between Malawi and Mozambique, aiming to enhance safe mobility and small-scale cross-border trade along the Nacala Corridor by facilitating small-scale trade without compromising the security and integrity of borders, capacity building efforts, and improved bilateral relations.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Perform administrative, logistical, and networking activities to assist the implementation and coordination of all IOM IBG activities, and related projects,
- Assist in the smooth implementation of all IOM activities of the World Bank funded projects, and related projects, by supporting the preparation and adaption of workplans, in coordination with the Project Officer and Programme Officer,
- Assist in tracking, coordinating, and reporting project activities and expenditure in line with reporting requirements in line with IOM internal reporting guidelines,
- Assist the coordination of the hosting of workshops, trainings, seminars, and conferences in line with the project workplan,
- Assist in drafting of programmatic presentations, talking points, briefing papers, speeches, social media articles and press briefing notes as well as promoting project and donor visibility,
- Undertake duty travel, as required to ensure the smooth implementation of projects within the relevant portfolio.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
University degree or its equivalent in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience
Experience
- Operational and field experience in migration management issues, including government and donor liaison.
- Demonstrated knowledge of government processes, including engagement with technical partners.
- Demonstrated good level of expertise in the thematic areas relevant to the project – specifically IBG, labour migration, migration policy.
- Knowledge of project cycle.
- Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with government authorities, national and international organizations, and other project partners.
