Overview
Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women Malawi focuses on different themes to promote Gender Equality and Women Empowerment in Malawi. Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) is one of the thematic areas implemented whose Goal is to ensure that women have Income security, Decent Work and Economic Autonomy. In line with the 2024-2028 strategic note, the WEE portfolio focuses on Skills Development for girls and women in different sectors including digitalization and ICT, application of Women Empowerment Principles, Entrepreneurship, Care Work and Enabling policy environment for Women Economic Empowerment.
Currently, the WEE portfolio is implementing a skills development project in ICT called Malawi Girls Can Code Too (MGCC2) whose Goal is that by 2026, Malawian girls and young women are economically empowered through increased digital access and technology adoption with funding from the Embassy of Ireland. The project will be implemented in 8 districts across the 6 education divisions in selected secondary schools where Innovation hubs will be established, and Boot Camps of intensive ICT and other topics will be conducted. The project is implemented together with Government of Malawi co-led by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Gender. The WEE portfolio is seeking services of Programme Support Consultants (3) to facilitate the successful implementation of the MGCC2 and other WEE projects at district and community level. The consultants will be reporting to WEE Programme Specialist, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project implementation in the districts facilitated.
- Schools and communities sensitized.
- E-learning hubs established and functional.
- Participants from the districts participate in at least 3 boot camps.
- Linkages with private sector established.
Administrative and logistical support to the project provided.
- Administrative support in the preparation of programme workplans, acceleration plans, budgets, and proposals on programme implementation arrangements provided.
- Travel arrangements including travel requisitions and claims Made.
- Power-point presentation prepared and presented to stakeholders.
Knowledge management Facilitated.
- Relevant information from the district for developing knowledge products on the project provided.
- Articles/write-ups, case studies, success stories and submit them for publications/websites, newsletters, Fact sheets, press releases, contributed etc.
Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting supported.
- Quality Periodic progress reports drafted and shared timely.
- Pre and post training support and monitoring to beneficiaries conducted.
- In collaboration with M& team project database updated regularly.
- Monitored and participated in program reviews.
- Donor and Stakeholder visits hosted and or supported.

Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Gender, ICT, Entrepreneurship or social sciences is required
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in programme implementation
- Technical experience in the Education, Gender and Livelihoods sectors is required
- Experience in Community Mobilization is required
- Experience in ICT related programming is an asset
- Experience working in the UN or other international development organization is required
- Experience working in a computer environment using multiple office software packages
- Excellent analytical skills with strong drive for results and capacity to work independently
