Overview

Project Background

M’mbelwa District Council (MDC), with funding from European Union (EU) is working in partnership with World Relief International Malawi, leading the implementation of Enhancing Sustainable Use of Natural Resources through Integrated Catchment Management (RUNES-ICM) Project under Ulimi ndi Chlengedve Framework designed to contribute to improvement of natural rescurce management to prevent land degradation and encroachment, and to enhance biodiversity, biomass, food security, and livelhoods. The project is being implemented around Mtangatanga and Champhira Forest Fleserves. MDC has received project funding from EU and intends to use part of the funds to recruit project stat.

Job Description

Reports to: The District Commissioner
Supervises: Project Field Officer
Location: M’mbelwa District Council
Duration: Full-time (1 year contract, renewable subject to performance, and for a maximum of 4 years)

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the District Commissioner, the incumbent provides thorough technical, and administrative support, in order to facilitate the objectives of RUNES-ICM Project and fulfilment of its project related tasks. The Project Coordinator has the main responsibility for overall management of activities and tasks related to the project
  • Must liaise with government project focal person to ensure that there is a coherent approach to the project execution at the Council

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Director of Economic Planning and Development, the Project Coordinator, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project. He/she is responsible for the overall planning, coordination of project activities, and monitoring of project results. Specifically, he/she will carry out the following tasks:

  1. Provide overall technical lead for implementation of all project outputs and activities and ensure technical soundness of project implementation.
  2. Assists the District Commissioner in preparation of semi-annual and annual reports.
  3. Assists with logistical arrangements for the hosting of meetings and technical workshops and seminars
  4. Prepare and submit annual work plans and budgets for approval
  5. Track the project’s progress and ensure timely delivery of inputs and outputs
  6. Ensure high level of collaboration with co-applicant, project associate, UCHi partners through government focal person within the Council
  7. Organize project workshops and review meetings to monitor progress
  8. In close collaboration with project focal person, support the organization of consultancy tasks like baseline studies, mid-term, final evaluations and other studies
  9. Perform any other related functions and responsibities consistent with this role and any other dubes assigned related to project

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  1. At least advanced Degree in Natural resource management, Environmental Science, Economics/Social Science, Forestry or any other related fields
  2. In-depth know/edge of project theory of change and project monitoring and evaluation
  3. Ablity to work under minimum supervision and under extreme pressure without missing deadlines
  4. Result oriented with a clearly demonstrated track record of achievements
  5. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in implementation of interventions for sustainable management of natural resources such as forests, land management and natural resources management
  6. Proven experience working in European Union’ environment/natural resource management projects/ programmes
  7. Advanced computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, STATA, SPSS
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical skills and solid technical report writing skills
