Job summary

Project Officers with general Duties of project officers will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and providing support to children who are the primary caregivers of their households, often due to the absence of parents, ensuring their basic needs are met, protecting their rights, and connecting them with necessary services like healthcare, education, and social assistance programs; essentially acting as a dedicated case manager specifically focused on the unique challenges faced by child-headed households.

Key responsibilities of Project Officers with general duties of Project Officers include:

  1. Community outreach and identification:
  • Actively engage with communities to identify and register child-headed households, utilizing community networks and local knowledge.
  1. Needs assessment:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of each household’s needs, including health, nutrition, education, economic situation, and potential risks to the children.
  1. Case management:
  • Develop individualized case plans for each child-headed household, outlining specific interventions and support required.
  1. Advocacy and referrals:
  • Advocate for the rights of child-headed households, linking them to relevant government programs, healthcare services, educational opportunities, and legal support when necessary.
  1. Capacity building:
  • Empower child household heads by providing training and life skills development programs to improve their ability to manage household responsibilities.
  1. Child protection:
  • Monitor           for       potential        child    abuse, neglect,         or         exploitation            within  child-headed households and report concerns to relevant authorities.
  1. Financial assistance:
  • Assist in accessing available financial support programs, including cash transfers or grants, to help meet basic needs.
  1. Collaboration with stakeholders:
  • Work closely with local government officials, community leaders, NGOs, and other relevant organizations to coordinate support for child-headed households.
  1. Data collection and reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of case information and submit regular reports to relevant stakeholders on the progress and challenges faced by child-headed households.

Required Experience, Qualification and Attributes

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Project Management, Development Studies also Monitoring and Evaluation from a well reputable Institution accredited by NCHE.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of financial reports, budgets, and reconciliations.
  • Possessing cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and ability to follow official systems and procedures
  • Knowledge and skills in key computer packages: Word, Excel, Power point, internet.
  • A self-starter that can work with minimum supervision and willing to work extra hours when the call of duty demands.
  • Be a matured and devoted Christian of sound standing in their local church

Essential skills for Project Officers:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust  with  children  and families.
Understanding of child protection issues and relevant legislation.
Ability to conduct needs assessments and develop comprehensive case plans.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness of local community dynamics.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly children.
