We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant/Accountant – Malawi, based in Balaka, to join our growing team.

The Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi is the cornerstone of Lindian’s asset portfolio and ranks amongst some of the best underdeveloped rare earth assets in the world. Our assets will provide critical minerals to fuel the technologies of tomorrow, driving innovation and supporting the world’s energy transition.
Through the development of the Kangankunde Project, Lindian is set to become a globally significant rare earths producer.
The Senior Accountant/Accountant Role
Reporting to the Country Manager (Malawi) and functionally to the Financial Controller (Australia), you will be responsible for:

Process monthly payroll and statutory compliance filings

Execute month-end close: journal entries, reconciliations, and audit files

Prepare and monitor monthly cash calls

Coordinate accounts payable and vendor payments

Manage local banking relationships and payments
-
Ensure local tax compliance (PAYE, WHT, VAT, corporate tax), liaising with MRA
-
Preparation of local financial statements and dealing with auditors

Develop and document finance processes and procedures

Support half-year and annual audits with preparation of audit schedules

Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to the Financial Controller
To Succeed in This Role, You Will Possess the Following:

Professional accounting qualification (CPA or CA) preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

Proven experience in transaction processing and hands-on accounting

Strong knowledge of local tax laws and payroll compliance
-
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access

Experience managing banking and cash-flow functions
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

Collaborative mindset with a passion for achieving team and company goals
Location & Position Demands

Drive-in/Drive-out to Balaka; based full-time in Balaka once the camp is established

Flexible working hours to accommodate interactions across international time zones
Eligibility: Candidates must be eligible to work in Malawi. Candidates will be asked to complete a National Police Clearance prior to employment.
