Government Health Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians for
the following vacancies existing under the establishment of Ministry of Health:

Post: Senior Disease Control Officer (Under Expanded Programme on Immunization)
Grade: H/P8
Salary: Within the range of Grade H Salary Segment
Ref. No: P8/26
Responsible to: The Principal Disease Control Officer (Grade G/P7).
Location: EPI

Qualifications:

Applicants should be Clinical Officers (Grade I/PO), Nursing Officers (Grade I/PO), Environmental Officers (Grade I/PO) with a minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in that post. Must be knowledgeable in vaccine preventable disease and vaccine safety surveillance, either at the National or Regional EPI Office. A Master degree in Environmental Health or a Master’s degree in Epidemiology
or a Master’s degree in Public Health will be an added advantage.

Duties

  • Ensure full implementation of the immunization services through provision of routine immunization services and surveillance services for both pharmacovigilance and disease surveillance.
  • Involved in the immunization planning and estimating budgets for immunization service delivery depending on EPI pillar assigned.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation activities of immunization services through scheduled reviews at all levels and time periods.
  • Conduct periodic immunization service delivery supervision, mentorship and coaching for quality service delivery at all levels.
  • Ensure partner collaboration and participation in designated EPI governance structures for leadership, planning and coordination of EPI services delivery.
  • Ensure that high quality Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIAs) are conducted to achieve the disease control programme goals of providing second opportunities to children.
  • Ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for vaccine management and other supply related SOPs are implemented at all levels.
  • Conduct trainings and workshops for health workers on vaccine handling, stock-management and calculations of vaccine requirements and wastage rates.
  • Establish an efficient supply distribution system and ensure availability of transport.
  • Provide technical expertise on the introduction of new and under-utilized vaccines and other EPI innovations through trainings and workshops
