Government Health Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians for
the following vacancies existing under the establishment of Ministry of Health:

Post: Senior Disease Control Officer (Under Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Programmes)
Grade: H/P8
Salary: Within the range of Grade H Salary Segment

Responsible to: The Principal Disease Control Officer
Location: Ministry of Health Headquarters

Qualifications:

Applicants should be serving Disease Control Officers (Grade I/PO), with a minimum of four (4)years experience in that post. Must have worked in one of the Neglected Tropical Disease Control Programmes. Must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health or Epidemiology or any other health related degree from recognized institutions. Those with a Master’s degree in Community Health and Development, Masters in Public Health, Masters in Environmental Health, Masters in Epidemiology or any other health related Master’s degree will have an added advantage.

Duties

  • Assist in resource mobilization for disease prevention, control and surveillance.
  • Identify training needs of health staff and conduct training sessions for them.
  • Facilitate and lead in disease outbreak investigations including compilation of findings and recommendations.
  • Assist in compiling, collating and submitting routine monthly, quarterly and annual reports pertaining disease prevention, control and surveillance.
  • Produce spot maps of communicable diseases and disease vectors that are common in a particular locality.
  • Participate in entomological evaluation of vector control programmes.
  • Assist in facilitating preparation and organisations of general district training activities pertaining disease prevention, control and surveillance activities.
  • Conduct routine monitoring, supervision and evaluation (including periodic reviews) of disease prevention, control and surveillance activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
