VACANCY

St Andrews Community Hospital is a non-profit making institution under the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi. The Hospital is a member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It offers inpatient and outpatient services. St Andrews Community Hospital would like to recruit suitably qualified personnel to fill the following vacant position with immediate effect:

JOB POSITION:  SENIOR OPTHALMIC CLINICAL TECHNICIAN (Grade J)

 

DURATION: PERMANENT

 RESPONSIBLE TO:  SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE:   To provide comprehensive eye examination including complete ocular health assessment, full refractive and low vision care, binocular vision assessment, management and contract lens fitting.

Qualification and Experience

  • The incumbent must be in possession of a Diploma in Optometry from an accredited institution and must be registered with the medical Council in Malawi
  • Must be a self-starter and work with minimal/no supervision
  • A minimum of 6 years working experience with a reputable and busy institution.
  • Those worked with a CHAM Hospital shall have added advantage.

  • Ability to diagnose, treat and care for all eye conditions
  • Sober, Honest, and trustworthy
  • Ability to work to meet the datelines on assignment
  • Team player

 

Key responsibilities

  • Use ocular diagnostic drugs to diagnose conditions such as refractive errors, accommodative dysfunction, dry eye syndrome;
  • Prescribe, supply, fit and dispense spectacles and other vision aids;
  • Detect binocular vision anomalies and managing appropriately;
  • Provide low vision services and prescribing appropriate low vision aids;
  • Provide primitive eye care services at the community level including community and institutional eye screenings;
