Student Engagement Officer

Location: Malawi (field-based with occasional office reporting)

Reports to: Child Protection Officer
Positions: In following areas, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Mzimba, Balaka, Dedza, Salima and Lilongwe

Tikondere is a nonprofit dedicated to unlocking education access and community resilience in Malawi. We support vulnerable students through transparent school fee payments, safeguarding, and local entrepreneurship. Our work is rooted in dignity, hope, and ethical storytelling.

Role Overview

The Student Engagement Officer will serve as Tikondere’s frontline ambassador in schools and communities. You will monitor student progress, conduct interviews, verify attendance, and ensure our support is reaching those who need it most. This role blends fieldwork, safeguarding, and relationship-building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular school visits to meet students supported by Tikondere.

  • Interview students and guardians to assess academic progress, wellbeing, and challenges.

  • Verify school attendance, fee usage, and documentation.

  • Identify and report any safeguarding concerns or barriers to learning.

  • Build trust with school staff, guardians, and local leaders.

  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely field reports.

  • Support onboarding of new students and guardians into Tikondere’s programs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in education, social work, community development, or related field.

  • Experience in fieldwork, student support, or community engagement.

  • Familiarity with child safeguarding principles and referral pathways.

  • Strong interviewing, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Fluent in Chichewa and English.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license or ability to travel independently.

  • Basic digital literacy (email, forms, secure data handling).

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package and Teams.
