About ROSAF
The Road Safety Alert Foundation (ROSAF) is a registered Malawian not-for-profit, non-governmental organization committed to saving lives and mitigating road traffic injuries through evidence-based interventions, capacity building and community empowerment. ROSAF envisions a Malawi where roads are safe for all users and communities thrive free from preventable road accidents.
ROSAF promotes safe, legal and sustainable transport operations across Malawi through a range of road safety education and advocacy initiatives. These include; capacity-building programmes, community awareness campaigns and targeted interventions for motorcycle riders, vehicle drivers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. Among these efforts is the flagship Kabaza Safety Training Project (KSTP), which focuses on enhancing the knowledge and behaviour of motorcycle operators to reduce crashes and improve road discipline.

Application Process
Suitable, qualified, experienced, and motivated candidates are encouraged to fill the following vacancies tenable at its head office in Area 49, Lilongwe. The position is offered on a six (6) month fixed-term contract, with the first three months serving as a strict probationary period. There are no terminal benefits during this period, and employment may be terminated if performance standards are not met. Extensions will be based on performance and resource availability.
Position: Training and Education Officer
Reports to: Operations Manager
Purpose of the Role
To plan, organize and oversee ROSAF’s training and educational initiatives aimed at building a culture of road safety, responsible transport behaviour and workplace safety among all road users. The role expands beyond motorcycle rider training to include drivers, pedestrians, transport stakeholders, volunteers and corporate partners, supporting Malawi’s alignment with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and implement comprehensive road safety training programs targeting various groups including Kabaza operators, vehicle drivers, pedestrians, workplace staff and contractors.
- Deliver both theoretical lessons (road safety principles, traffic laws, first aid and safety culture) and practical sessions (motorcycle and vehicle control, signalling, braking, and safety gear use).
- Facilitate defensive driving and refresher safety courses for drivers and corporate clients.
- Coordinate workplace safety training, including modules on fire safety, emergency preparedness and contractor safety compliance.
- Supervise and mentor volunteer trainers and community safety champions to ensure consistent quality and safety standards during all sessions.
- Support the facilitation of rider and driver licensing and registration in collaboration with the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) and the Malawi Police Service (MPS). Work with the Media and Communications Team to document and publicize awareness campaigns, training milestones and impact stories.
- Conduct quarterly and annual training programs in line with ROSAF policies and promote compliance with all safeguarding, safety and ethical standards.
- Prepare reports on training results, challenges, and recommendations for continuous improvement of safety programs.
- Actively promote ROSAF’s commitment to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, advocating for safer systems and a culture of responsibility across all transport and workplace settings.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Education or any related field.
- Experience in training delivery, transport safety, community education, or workplace safety programs. Valid Motorcycle Riding and/or Driving License with at least 3 years’ experience in rider or driver training.
- Sound knowledge of Malawi’s Road Traffic Act, road safety regulations and workplace safety standards.
- The individual should possess both coordination skills and organizing abilities. Strong facilitation, coordination and record-keeping skills.
- Experience working with NGOs, community-based programs or training institutions is an added advantage.
- Computer literacy and ability to use digital reporting tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and Chichewa.
