Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit Christian Organization aiming at improving housing conditions in Malawi.  HFHM was established in Malawi in 1986 and has assisted over 75,000 families through different housing solutions.  In addition to housing, HFHM has undertaken water and sanitation projects Disaster Risk Reduction and Response in peri-urban and rural areas, Advocacy and Vocational Skills training.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi has the following vacant positions to be filled in support of the “Promoting Sustainable Construction Project” in Blantyre.

Job Title: 2. Workshop Trainer
Project: Promoting use of sustainable construction materials in Malawi
Location Blantyre
Reports to Production Supervisor/ Project Manager
Job Summary The Workshop Trainer plays a pivotal role in providing training to students and overseeing all practical workshop activities on cement blocks and SSB making. This position involves ensuring that students receive high-quality training and managing the procurement and utilization of raw materials to meet educational requirements. The Workshop Trainer will collaborate with other faculty members and administrative staff to ensure a seamless learning experience for students.
Main Responsibilities
  • Training and Instruction: Deliver engaging and informative training sessions to students, ensuring that they gain practical skills and knowledge required in their field of study.
  • Workshop Oversight: Supervise and manage all practical workshop activities, including the setup, maintenance, and safe operation of equipment and tools.
  • Raw Material Management: Monitor and maintain an adequate supply of raw materials needed for practical training, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and safety of workshop activities and that students adhere to safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other trainers, faculty, and administrative staff to coordinate training schedules, share resources, and enhance the overall learning experience for students.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain detailed records of training sessions, student progress, equipment maintenance, and raw material inventory.
  • Student Support: Provide guidance and support to students during practical sessions, addressing their questions and concerns.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving training methods, workshop processes, and resource utilization.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all workshop activities adhere to safety regulations, educational standards, and institutional policies.
Education Qualification
  • Diploma in a relevant field, or equivalent vocational training experience.
  • Prior experience in training and overseeing practical workshop activities is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of educational and safety standards in workshop settings.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for educational purposes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to evolving training needs.
Experience required
  • Training Expertise: Proficient in delivering effective and engaging training sessions, with the ability to convey complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of workshop equipment and tools, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance.
  • Raw Material Knowledge: Familiarity with the types and quality requirements of raw materials relevant to the training programs.
  • Quality Control: Attention to detail in assessing and maintaining the quality of student work and workshop operations.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Record-Keeping: Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  •  Safety Awareness: A commitment to safety protocols and practices in a workshop environment.
